I had no idea that buying a car was soooooooo expensive. When I imagined buying my first car all I thought about was just getting my car and driving. However that was not the case at all. When I first bought my 2000 Mitsubishi Galant four weeks ago, not only did I inherit an old car but, I also inherited some of its problems. On the outside my car looked brand new, but on the inside that is a different story. My glove compartment was missing a piece, so the glove compartment wouldn’t close. My driver side mirror ,which was a cable mirror, would move out of place when I move it. Finally my arm rest was missing hinges so the top wasn’t on it. I thought those were minor problems compared to what was ahead of me. I had to replace three out of four tires,( my two back ones and my front passenger side one) because they were going bald and losing tread. Also when I started my car it would make a loud screeching sound that would last for about 10-15 seconds. I asked my parents what the noise was and they suggested that one of the belts underneath my engine was not tightly secured. On top of that I had to purchase 30 day tags, until I got my car inspected, which ran me for about 160. So in the first couple of weeks my car caused me a little stress but I figured it was nothing I couldn’t handle.

About two weeks ago I had gotten my car inspected, and my driver side mirror replaced and I thought my car was going to pass with flying colors. I was sadly mistaken. After the inspection the mechanic told me a couple of things that was wrong with my car that I wasn’t aware of. First he told me that there was a leak in my flex exhaust pipe, second he told me my headlights wasn’t properly installed, and third he told me that there was a lugnut missing from my back passenger tire. After he told me this I was thinking ok, thats not too bad, all I got to do is fix these problems then I finally be riding smooth. I asked him how much it would cost, and he refered me to a specialist next door. The specialist gave me a quote of about 550 to fix everything. I’m thinking ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Man that’s alot of money. With the rate I’m getting paid at my job that’s going to take forever. Most of my checks are in the 80-110 range. So its gonna take awhile to get everything fixed. Also my tags are about to expire at the end of april so I have to get new tags as well. But with all that being said, I still love having a car. It gives you a great since of independence, being able to come and go anywhere as you please. These problems just come with the territory when you buy a used car.

The First Week is in the Books

The first week of the MLB season is in the books, and what a week it was. It started with a surprise, to some. The playoff contenders from the last couple of seasons, Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox,Cubs, Angels, and Twins get off to slow starts. Other up and coming teams are getting off to hot starts like the Rays, Orioles, Blue Jays, Marlins, Mariners, Braves, and Padres. The defending champion Philadelphia Phillies lost two out of three to division foes, the Atlanta Braves. Last year’s AL Cy Young Winner Clif Lee, is lost his first two starts. Which is very surprising since he only lost three games all of last season. The runner up for the AL Cy Young, Boston starting pitcher Daiskue Matsuzka also known as Dice K also has gotten off to a slow start as well. Losing his first game of the season, and in his second start he got pulled after one inning allowing five hits and five earned runs. Newly acquired Yankee pitcher A.J. Burnett looked very impressive in his first start as a Yankee. Leading them to an 11-2 win, pitching 5 innings, allowing 7 hits, 2 earned runs and striking out 6. His teammate C.C. Sebathia was not so impressive in his Yankee debut. Going 4 innings, allowing 8 hits, 5 walks, and 6 earned runs. The Cardinals saw some action from there star pitcher Chris Carpenter, who had to sit out last season due to injury. In his first game back got the win, pitched 7 innings, walked 2, allowed 1 hit and 1 earned run, while striking out 7. This baseball season looks to be a good one with all the new upcoming teams around the league, I can’t wait until October.

Opening Day

Opening Day of baseball got off with a bang last night, well a bang for the Braves at least. The World Champion Philadelphia Phillies took on their long time division foe the Atlanta Braves. Having their World Series trophies flown in before the game, you would think that would give them added motivation to go and win. Not the case as the Braves were not impressed. They shut out the defending champs in the first game of the season. Newly acquired pitcher Derek Lowe pitched 8 innings for the Braves giving up 2 hits, striking out 4, and most importantly not giving up an earned run. The former Los Angelos Dodger held powerhouse swingers Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, and Raul Ibanez to 0 hits in a combined 10 plate appearances, which is very impressive, considering each were top 15 in runs batten in last season. The Phillies will get their chance at redemption tho, as the play the Braves 16 more times before the season lets out. Son chin up Phillies you have nothing to be ashamed of, especially with those World Series Rings.

Unlucky Friday

I just recently found out that last friday on March 13 the most unfortunate event happened to some young kids at a daycare in Arkansas. According to yahoo.com ten children aged from two to seven drank about a one once of what appeared to be blue kool-aid to the children. However it turned out that the owner of the daycare put windshield wiper fluid in the daycare refrigerator and served it to the children mistaking it for the blue kool-aid. According to yahoo “Only one child remained hospitalized Friday in good condition, after blood samples showed “measurable levels” of methanol, a highly toxic alcohol that can induce comas and cause blindness, officials said.”
I really hope the children turn out ok, but just the fact that the owner would make such a critical mistake like putting windshield wiper fluid in the fridge just angers me. How can you be so careless as the fact to make a potentially life threating mistake like that one slip out your hands. You are the owner of a daycare, and your trusted by the parent/guardian to take care of their children for eight hours or more. And something like this happens its just ridiculous. Could you imagine being a parent, and you come get off of work to come pick your kid up from daycare just to find out he/she is in the hospital because someone decided to put windshield wiper in the fridge and serve it to the children. I would be very enraged. But with all that said I am not perfect, I am far from it. I have made my share of mistakes, but I just feel that you have to be more responsible when you are handling other people’s children.

learning to salsa is harder than it looks

When it think of salsa dancing, all i thought it was just taking a woman by the hand spinning her and dipping her done deal. Little did I know it is ALOT MORE THAN THAT!!! I was in for a hot, sweaty, rude awakening. Yesterday evening me and my friend Chris decided to go take salsa lessons at the female dormatory Harpor Tubman at Morgan State University. Well when we got there were about 20 minutes late and they group were already movin and groovin. When we got there everyone just stopped and looked at us like we said something stupid. But anyway we took our jackets off and headed our way to the back. The instructor was doing some crazy count that I couldn’t keep up with at first. When I tell you we was looking like fools trying to do the moves in the back trying to dance it was embarrasing. We couldn’t keep up with the beat and we damn near ran into each other. But that wasn’t the worst part. The instructor stops dancing, goes to her labtop, goes to a salsa song on youtube and says “get a partner.” I was thinkin already I don’t have the moves all down pack yet. So I was feeling a little uneasy but what the heck I said lets give it a try. So two of my female friends were there taking lessons with me so I decided to ask one of them to dance. And it was a DISASTER!!! We couldnt get any moves right. I salsa the male is supposed to lead the woman in dancing but that didn’t go to well. We were constantly bumping legs I was so discouraged. Then the song went off and we had to exchange partners once again. I was thinking to myself not again. So I switched partners and my next partner was pretty good. We had rhythm we didn’t bump into one another like my previous partner. I was thinkin im starting to get the hang of this salsa thing. But those hopes were quickly flushed down the drain when we had to switch partner again for the final dance of the night. We were awful. When I stepped forward she stepped forward. When I went left she went right. It was so much miscommunication it was ridiculous. I thought I know Im not all that good but you miss need MORE PRACTICE THAN ME. But with all that said it was fun and new experience for me. I definitely will be there next week.
