When it think of salsa dancing, all i thought it was just taking a woman by the hand spinning her and dipping her done deal. Little did I know it is ALOT MORE THAN THAT!!! I was in for a hot, sweaty, rude awakening. Yesterday evening me and my friend Chris decided to go take salsa lessons at the female dormatory Harpor Tubman at Morgan State University. Well when we got there were about 20 minutes late and they group were already movin and groovin. When we got there everyone just stopped and looked at us like we said something stupid. But anyway we took our jackets off and headed our way to the back. The instructor was doing some crazy count that I couldn’t keep up with at first. When I tell you we was looking like fools trying to do the moves in the back trying to dance it was embarrasing. We couldn’t keep up with the beat and we damn near ran into each other. But that wasn’t the worst part. The instructor stops dancing, goes to her labtop, goes to a salsa song on youtube and says “get a partner.” I was thinkin already I don’t have the moves all down pack yet. So I was feeling a little uneasy but what the heck I said lets give it a try. So two of my female friends were there taking lessons with me so I decided to ask one of them to dance. And it was a DISASTER!!! We couldnt get any moves right. I salsa the male is supposed to lead the woman in dancing but that didn’t go to well. We were constantly bumping legs I was so discouraged. Then the song went off and we had to exchange partners once again. I was thinking to myself not again. So I switched partners and my next partner was pretty good. We had rhythm we didn’t bump into one another like my previous partner. I was thinkin im starting to get the hang of this salsa thing. But those hopes were quickly flushed down the drain when we had to switch partner again for the final dance of the night. We were awful. When I stepped forward she stepped forward. When I went left she went right. It was so much miscommunication it was ridiculous. I thought I know Im not all that good but you miss need MORE PRACTICE THAN ME. But with all that said it was fun and new experience for me. I definitely will be there next week.
